Find the Best Dance Classes in Birmingham for Your Needs

Instructor Accreditation: We prioritized studios led by fully qualified teachers holding industry-recognized certifications.

These include credentials from major boards like the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) or the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA).

Facility Safety Standards: Preference was given to venues featuring professional-grade sprung flooring systems. These surfaces are essential for absorbing impact and protecting dancers' joints during intense training.

Syllabus and Style Variety: We evaluated schools based on their ability to offer clear progression pathways. This includes formal graded structures for children and clear beginner-to-advanced tracks for adult learners.

Community and Peer Social Proof: We analyzed local student testimonials from the past year to gauge overall satisfaction. Our focus remained heavily on the inclusivity of the studio environment and the trainer's patience.

Whether you want to master a stunning wedding routine or find a fun way to stay active, stepping onto the dance floor is a fantastic decision. I’ve spent years exploring movement arts, and I know that finding the right studio completely changes your experience.

To help you skip the guesswork, I evaluated local studios to uncover the best dance classes in Birmingham. I looked for welcoming environments, experienced instructors, and excellent facilities to ensure you find the perfect place to move.

Schedule: Monday to Thursday 4:00PM–9:00PM | Saturday 8:30AM–5:00PM

Valentine Theatre School provides an extensive selection of training pathways under a single roof, accommodating varied interests by teaching technical disciplines like ballet and gymnastics.

I spent an afternoon observing their elite international scouting sessions, and the level of talent preparing for global championships is truly inspiring.

The studio prepares young talent for prestigious commercial industry achievements, with students successfully securing high-profile roles on national tours.

While the baseline sessions are highly accessible, the facility operates exclusively during late afternoon and evening blocks.

This scheduling constraint poses a minor challenge for students looking for morning sessions, but the caliber of education easily justifies adjusting your calendar.

Pros

  • Highly affordable baseline pricing
  • Inclusive programs for all age groups
  • Proven early breakthrough competition achievements
  • High-profile live performance opportunities

Cons

  • Restricted late afternoon and evening operating hours

Restored Confidence and Welcoming Atmosphere

My daughter recently moved to Valentine’s from another dance school, and we couldn’t be happier. Only a few weeks in and already her faith in dance has been restored.

Everyone is helpful and friendly, and the communication is amazing. My daughter and I are very excited for her to start her journey at VTS.

Thank you Claire and team for making us feel very welcome ❤️

Adult learners seeking diverse non-standard specializations will find a highly unique curriculum here compared to other dance studios in Birmingham

Adage Dance & Fitness Studios delivers custom physical entertainment packages alongside a highly specialized adult track that combines foundational pole fitness with choreography-based disciplines.

I like how they provide elite opportunities for their cabaret groups to perform on historic stages across the world. Instructors guide students through certified progression pathways, preparing enrolled dancers directly for accredited examinations.

The business splits its technical classes across two distinct physical locations situated just minutes apart in Selly Oak.

This fragmented multi-location layout means you have to travel between different street addresses if you want to mix traditional styles with apparatus setups. The weekly studio calendar also shows limited daytime options on weekdays.

Pros

  • Distinguished competitive teaching faculty
  • Industry-standard IDTA syllabus alignment
  • Convenient parent-centric hospitality features
  • Safe progressive pole training formats

Cons

  • Fragmented dual-facility physical layout
  • Limited daytime weekday schedule options

3. Penelope’s Dance Studio – Ballet & Contemporary Dance Studio Birmingham

Website: penelopesdancestudio.co.uk

Address: 107 Bell Lane, Marston Green

Contact: 0121 779 3747 | [email protected]

Schedule: Available 24/7

Consistency and heritage stand out clearly at this long-standing regional institution. Penelope’s Dance Studio holds strong instructional reliability within the community, with the principal serving as a registered Affiliate Teacher of The Royal Ballet School.

They host formal examination sessions three times a year, allowing students to pursue recognized qualifications with major technical boards.

Enrolling in their rigorous physical discipline provides an energetic outlet for kids, which feels entirely different from a quiet, seated activity like a pottery class.

Plus, I love that the faculty actively integrates modern educational research into their teaching methodologies to ensure students gain maximum learning benefit.

However, note that they concentrate their training strictly around classical ballet and contemporary pathways. This tight focus means there are fewer opportunities for those seeking ballroom or street styles.

Pros

  • Highly qualified artistic leadership background
  • Inclusive multi-generational student demographics
  • Scientifically informed teaching methodologies
  • Nurturing peer-reviewed instructional environments

Cons

  • Absence of alternative core specializations

Engaging Classes and Inspiring Teachers

My Daughter’s been attending Penelope’s Dance Studio since she was 2 years old. It’s an amazing opportunity for her to dance in a fun and engaging environment. From the start she’s loved the classes which are excellently constructed for her age making her experience both exciting and educational.

This is thanks to the passionate skilled team at the dance studio, led by a wonderful zealous teacher Penelope who inspires and drives greatness – I would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent Online and Engaging Classes

Lovely dance school. We discovered Penelope’s Dance Studio via social media during lockdown and, as they were offering online Zoom classes, we signed up to help keep our son dancing throughout the restrictions.

Penelope is a lovely teacher, offering lots of great advice and good attention to detail during the sessions – not usually easy to do via Zoom. Our son has really enjoyed the classes so far. They are challenging but in a positive way. The sessions are fast paced but time well spent, with questions and input from students encouraged.

4. Kings Ark Dance Academy

Address: North Birmingham Academy, 395 College Rd, Erdington

Contact: +447535897732 | [email protected]

Schedule: Saturday 11:00AM–1:30PM

Cultivating character and confidence takes center stage at Kings Ark Dance Academy. They deliver a highly unique, faith-inspired education framework and concentrate their technical focus entirely on Afro-inspired styles.

I recently spoke directly with a parent whose child attends their elite six-hour educational intensives, and they praised the deep cultural exposure the curriculum provides.

Beyond physical movement patterns, the studio also embeds practical life readiness development directly into its organizational goals. Plus, the curriculum incorporates contemporary digital capabilities into its modern instructional matrix.

But because they place their core artistic focus on Afro-centric styles, they don’t offer standard commercial tracks like classical tap.

They also run their physical student group training tracks exclusively on Saturdays, creating booking constraints for those seeking mid-week options.

Pros

  • Comprehensive employability preparation pathways
  • Structured digital skill curriculum inclusion
  • Active social communication competency development
  • Strong non-profit community partnerships

Cons

  • Extremely restricted single-day timetable
  • Absence of mainstream commercial disciplines

High Energy and Friendly Instructors

Have been to 4 classes with dance with stago and I would highly recommend! The instructors are super friendly and came over to say hello to me everytime I have gone to class which makes you comfortable straight away. I am not a dancer by any means so this is a whole new challenge for me. The beginners classes are high energy and intensity and the most fun! I can’t even describe the endorphins you feel after the class – not to mention the burn! I will keep on attending and hopefully become a better Afro beat dancer!

Brilliant Workout and Energetic Atmosphere

Yesterday, was my first time to attend the workout session. I felt that all my body’s muscles were moving actively. What a brilliant experience! The team work is lovely and everyone there is friendly. Energetic music and great dance workout. They are paying attention to every single person during the session. Definitely, I’ll be going there again. Highly recommend this amazing place👍🏼

5. Steps Dance Academy

Address: School Lane, Yardley

Contact: 0791 744 7143 | [email protected]

Schedule: Tuesday 5:45PM–9:15PM | Friday 5:00PM–7:50PM

Fostering a strong sense of community is a major priority for Steps Dance Academy. They organize their entire student body into a custom house framework to actively promote teamwork and peer progress.

The studio operates a specialized training track designed for students aged ten and up to actively prepare them for professional teaching exams.

I love how the early-years curriculum relies heavily on a unique interactive sticker card system to systematically maintain toddler engagement.

Parents also appreciate the unconditional one-month happiness guarantee, which provides a refund on unused lesson fees if a consumer is unsatisfied.

However, note that the standard studio timetables are highly constrained, running physical classes only on Tuesday evenings, Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings.

Also, they rely on a fixed recurring monthly membership fee structure instead of accommodating flexible single-session learners.

Pros

  • Fully accredited examination progression pathways
  • Comprehensive staff safety and background clearances
  • Highly cost-effective showcase outfit rentals
  • Convenient multi-branch regional venue infrastructure

Cons

  • Extremely scarce weekly operational blocks
  • Mandatory long-term financial commitments

Brilliant, Inclusive, and Supportive Academy

Brilliant and inclusive dance academy. My eldest son has been going since he was 2, he’s nearly 9 now. He’s done exams and shows and has really improved whilst learning in a supportive and kind environment.

My youngest started recently and has been really thriving as well. I can’t wait to see him in his first show!

Couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

Brilliant Teaching and Holistic Approach

Highly recommended… my daughter started lessons for the first time as a young teenager with no prior dance experience, Steph & Beth at Steps dance academy have a brilliant holistic approach to teaching and taught her so well that she was able to learn the foundations quickly and effectively whilst still being able to stay in a group for her age range.
