Direct instruction from the academy founder guarantees a highly personalised coaching experience. AHA Golf Academy delivers this premium service by having Andrew Hancox handle all sessions instead of a rotating staff.

You receive deep analysis tailored specifically to your individual mechanics and goals. He uses advanced TrackMan radar tools to accurately analyse your club delivery and ball flight.

Plus, if you travel often, you can book online lessons using specific coaching software.

However, this highly bespoke setup naturally pushes away casual players who just want a quick tip.

Relying on one lead coach also limits the number of available booking slots each week. Because of that, you might need to plan your sessions well in advance.

Pros

  • Sessions handled directly by the founder
  • Highly personalised swing analysis
  • Uses advanced radar tracking tools
  • Online lessons available for travellers

Cons

  • Relies entirely on one lead coach
  • Premium focus deters casual learners

I’ve had a couple of lessons from Andrew so far and have seen a significant improvement in my game.  Andrew is very friendly and enthusiastic about what he does. He has a really good understanding of the golf swing and is able to explain what you are doing, what needs to change and why in a really straightforward manner.

By combining Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) coaching with advanced club fitting, Edgbaston Golf Academy is a complete training hub. They cater to everyone from complete beginners to experienced players looking to lower their scores.

We recently spoke with a golfer who tried their indoor TrackMan Studio, and they said seeing their precise swing data helped them quickly correct their posture.

The facility also has a sheltered turf area that closely mimics real fairway conditions, so you can practise drives and iron shots in any weather.

However, their highly tailored approach might feel like too much if you’re only looking for simple advice.

Additionally, getting to the venue can take longer if you live in the northern suburbs, especially during heavy traffic.

Pros

  • Combines professional coaching with club fitting
  • Indoor studio offers precise swing metrics
  • Sheltered turf mimics realistic fairway conditions
  • Suitable for both beginners and advanced players

Cons

  • Tailored data approach can overwhelm casual players
  • Longer travel time from northern suburbs

Looking forward to making more progress in 2026!

Ive been coached by Phil around 5 years ago after a long hiatus from golf. He has been instrumental in getting me back to a standard of play i’m happy with and can enjoy. The sessions are fun and im provided with clear areas of focus to work on before next time. Looking forward to making more progress in 2026!

Great coach in every way

Regular lessons over the last 18 months since I returned to playing golf after a break for a few years have transformed my game. My index has dropped 14 points over that time thanks to David and his coaching. Great coach in every way.

Finding a welcoming environment for younger players can make a big difference in building confidence. GL GOLF Academy focuses on grassroots development and helps inspire the next generation of junior and adult golfers.

They offer both group and individual sessions led by instructors with Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance.

The coaches also have over a decade of experience working in local school physical education programmes, giving them plenty of experience working with younger players.

However, this grassroots approach might not suit someone looking for an elite competitive training camp.

You may also face a longer commute if you’re driving in from the northern side of the city. On the plus side, their recommended hour-long sessions give you plenty of time to take in the lessons once you arrive.

Pros

  • Strong focus on grassroots player development
  • Coaches carry verified background clearance
  • Extensive experience working with school programs
  • Offers both group and individual lessons

Cons

  • Less suited for elite high-performance training
  • Longer commute for northern city residents

Greg has a very relaxed and patient approach to coaching

I joined the group course across three evenings and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greg has a very relaxed and patient approach to coaching, offering encouragement where needed. I’m hoping to have one on one lessons with Greg once I’ve had some more practice.

Highly recommend this academy to anyone who wants to learn or improve their golf skills!

I recently joined this golf academy as part of a birthday surprise, and it turned out to be one of the best gifts ever!  I’m a complete beginner, but Coach Greg has been so patient and focused on my learning.  He explains everything clearly and makes each lesson enjoyable and easy to understand. I’m still learning, but I’m really enjoying the process and looking forward to improving. Highly recommend this academy to anyone who wants to learn or improve their golf skills!

Website: https://www.moseleygolfclub.co.uk/

Address: Springfield Road, Kings Heath

Contact: 0121 444 4957

Hours: Book to schedule service

Learning your short game on a historic course adds a touch of prestige to your practice.

Moseley Golf Club offers professional coaching at one of the oldest golf courses in the Midlands. This gives you the chance to refine your technique on grounds originally designed in the 1920s.

They offer several membership tiers that give you access to both training services and social rounds. This means you don’t have to worry about booking specific tee times for casual games.

However, you’ll need to navigate their private club membership setup before booking coaching. That membership requirement can be a barrier if you’re only looking for a quick, standalone lesson.

Pros

  • Coaching takes place on a historic 1920s course
  • Membership grants access to social rounds
  • Multiple membership tiers fit different lifestyles
  • No tee times required for casual member games

Cons

  • Coaching requires navigating a private club setting

Dan offers affordable coaching for kids on the weekend

Amazing place. Dan offers affordable coaching for kids on the weekend. He is very friendly as well as welcoming. He has helped my son settle in and make new friends there. It has helped his confidence massively.

I can play the shots both mathematically and skilfully in the knowledge of trusting my coach

OMG MG of MGC,  I now have a four foot shift, instead of two foot left of the ball, I’m now two foot to the right of the  ball  I’m hitting longer better and I don’t seem to miss the fair way. On the down side I shoot between + 3 and +7 with my 3wood T shot whilst  using my driver its +15 average but now I don’t have to wait for luck I can play the shots both mathematically and skilfully in the knowledge of trusting my coach.

5. SKRATCH GOLF

skratch-golf

Website: https://www.skratch-golf.co.uk

Address: 40 Ludgate Hill

Contact: 0121 769 3499

Hours: Winter: Mon 4 pm-9 pm, Tue-Wed 10 am-9 pm, Thu-Sat 10 am-10 pm, Sun 12 pm-7 pm; Summer: Tue-Wed 11 am-9 pm, Thu-Sat 11 am-10 pm, Sun 12 pm-7 pm

Practising your swing in a modern urban venue can save you the hassle of crowded outdoor driving ranges. SKRATCH GOLF operates in the city centre as an indoor training and social space.

We recently spoke with a golfer who booked a private bay there, and they said the tour-level launch data helped them spot a major flaw in their stance straight away.

The simulators track your ball flight accurately, taking the guesswork out of practice sessions. You can also test different club heads and shafts on virtual courses before buying new gear.

Unfortunately, the fully indoor setup won’t suit players looking for a traditional outdoor grass experience.

They also close on Mondays during the summer season, so you’ll need to plan around that.

Pros

  • Central indoor venue eliminates weather issues
  • Tour-level data tracks accurate swing metrics
  • Private bays provide a stress-free learning space
  • Allows testing of different clubs before purchase

Cons

  • Indoor setup lacks natural outdoor feel
  • Closed on Mondays during the summer
