Revamp Your Home With the 5 Best Residential Interior Designers in Birmingham

Design Versatility and Style: We looked closely at each studio's portfolio to gauge their ability to adapt to different aesthetics. It is vital that a designer can tailor their approach to suit your unique vision rather than forcing a rigid signature look.

Communication and Process: A successful renovation hinges on clear, consistent updates from your design team. We prioritized businesses that offer structured, transparent processes from the initial consultation down to the final installation.

Project Management Capabilities: We evaluated whether the firms simply hand over blueprints or if they actively manage the entire build. Having a reliable team that coordinates contractors and oversees the messy construction phase is a massive advantage for busy homeowners.

Value for Investment: We analyzed the pricing structures and service packages to ensure they offer a fair return on your budget. Firms that provide comprehensive design solutions without hidden fees scored higher in our assessment.

Contact: +44(0)121 622 7366 / [email protected]

Hours: (By appointment only)

When you’re ready to completely transform your living space without lifting a finger, Wilkinson Beven offers an incredibly seamless, architectural approach to interior design.

They don’t just wait until the end to pick out soft furnishings; they look at your entire home structurally and aesthetically from day one.

I recently spoke with a homeowner who used their services, and they couldn’t stop raving about how the team handled heavy lifting, like spatial planning right alongside the interior styling.

Overall, their cohesive, start-to-finish experience eliminates the usual renovation headaches.

Furthermore, with their meticulous attention to detail, your home will be built around your exact lifestyle, ensuring a timeless, long-lasting space.

It’s worth noting that, because they provide such a premium, hands-on service, their in-depth timelines naturally take a bit longer than a quick-fix decorator.

But if you want an exceptional, award-winning result that feels uniquely yours, the wait is entirely worth it.

Pros

  • Stress-free, start-to-finish process
  • Meticulous attention to detail and lifestyle needs
  • World-class, award-winning design expertise
  • Timeless aesthetics

Cons

  • In-depth timelines require patience for the final result

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Finding a studio that truly listens to your vision can be challenging, but Cream & Black Interior Design excels with their highly collaborative, story-driven approach.

Instead of pushing a rigid signature look, this boutique Harborne studio focuses on the idea that your project is your story, guiding you through a deeply personal design journey.

They also make it incredibly easy to visualise the final space. For instance, they use a fantastic mix of hand-drawn sketches, 3D renders, and tactile sample boards.

It’s also great that their team handles everything from the initial site survey to full project management. They even collaborate directly with local craftsmen for bespoke furniture and custom joinery.

Do note, however, that they’re a luxury boutique. Their pricing is tailored toward higher-end budgets rather than small makeovers. Additionally, the studio is closed on weekends, which might require some scheduling flexibility during your workweek.

Pros

  • Excellent visual communication with sketches and 3D renders
  • Stress-free delivery and complete project management
  • Bespoke furniture and custom architectural details
  • Strong track record with multiple industry awards

Cons

  • No weekend consultations
  • Luxury pricing

On behalf of Lockley Homes, the ladies at Cream & Black have been a breath of fresh air to deal with and their expertise and professionalism is second to none. Space planning is a dying art in the architectural world and having worked with multiple design practices C&B are exceptional at the fundamentals. Their eagerness to bring colour to the palette is refreshing !

I couldn’t recommend Hannah & Laura any more if I tried! From start to finish they were amazing, we are so happy with our house and it’s all thanks to them. They’re eye for detail and small touches is unmatched and they listened to exactly what we wanted and got it spot on. They kept in great communication with us the whole way through and are just also such lovely people. Thank you so much x

3. John Charles Interiors

Website: johncharlesinteriors.co.uk

Address: 349 Hagley Road

Contact: 0121 420 3977 / [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM; Saturday 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Bank Holidays closed)

Sometimes you just need help with a single room rather than a whole house, which is why John Charles Interiors is a top choice.

Run by father-daughter duo John and Jenna, they showcase a technical knowledge dating back to 1983, and feature an accessible, family-run showroom experience.

Having recently visited their Hagley Road showroom myself, I was highly impressed by their massive selection of high-end fabrics and eco-friendly paints mixed on-site.

They’re also entirely flexible. The team can help clients source custom curtains or manage a full-scale home refurbishment, since they have a trusted team of builders and decorators.

It’s worth noting that they charge a £200 upfront consultation fee per room, which might deter those just looking for a casual introductory chat. Also, because they have a small core team, you might experience longer wait times during their busy seasons.

Pros

  • Total flexibility on project size and scope
  • Physical showroom with extensive fabric and paint options
  • Decades of long-standing industry experience
  • Full project management and installation services

Cons

  • Upfront £200 consultation fee per room
  • Small core team may lead to longer wait times

Originally found them by chance having never used an interior designer before or known what to expect, with perhaps a degree of scepticism!

John and Jenna helped pick out wallpaper and paint for 2 separate projects and there’s no chance we would have found the combinations ourselves. Friendly, helpful and clearly know their stuff. You pay a bit more, but it’s well worth it for both the insight and the quality of materials provided. It really comes together with the final product and without question justifies the added value a high quality interior design service brings.

Highly recommended

4. 2G Design & Build

2g-design-build

Website: 2gdesignandbuild.com

Address: The Joint Works, 45 Frederick St.

Contact: +44 (0) 121 537 1969

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Friday Closed

Navigating the gap between your architect and your contractor can be a nightmare. Thankfully, 2G Design & Build provides a seamless, in-house approach backed by third-generation builders.

Because they have both the creative and construction teams working under one roof, their plans are grounded in practical execution and budget efficiency.

I appreciate how this setup seriously cuts down on miscommunications. For instance, they can strictly stick to timelines while offering stunning 3D video walkthroughs before any hammers swing.

If you’re a property investor searching for reliable interior designers in Birmingham for a major overhaul, their expertise with Grade II listed buildings is a massive asset.

However, their portfolio leans heavily toward commercial spaces like restaurants and bars. They might feel a bit too commercially focused for someone wanting a purely residential touch.

Furthermore, their extensive six-stage process is geared toward large-scale structural changes. With this, they might be overly complex for light decorating needs.

Pros

  • Efficient process; has in-house design and build teams
  • Specific expertise with heritage and Grade II listed buildings
  • Detailed 3D modelling and day-to-night video walkthroughs
  • Strong commercial background ideal for property investors

Cons

  • Portfolio is heavily focused on commercial and hospitality spaces
  • Highly structured process is overkill for light residential decorating

Great company, forward thinking and really collaborative. Listened to our brief and created amazing designs. Were professional to the end and just all round brilliant to deal with. Will use again and would highly recommend.

I have used 2G Design & Build for four different projects and they have always provided amazing service for all the projects. They guide you through the whole process, from design through to build. Most important are reliable and trustworthy.

5. Pritpal Chana Architects

Website: pcarchitects.co.uk

Address: 216 Orphanage Road

Contact: 0121 827 5450

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:30 AM–5:30 PM

Pritpal Chana Architects offers a contemporary luxury design experience tailored specifically for everyday residential homeowners.

Drawing from high-profile London experience, Pritpal and his dedicated interior department look at the entire picture, from exterior architecture down to the emotional feel of the room.

Another plus is that they’re exceptionally skilled at navigating tricky local councils to secure planning permissions.

Whether you need a massive new build or streamlined kitchen renovations in Birmingham, they believe no budget is too small.

It’s also much appreciated by many clients I spoke with that the team creatively challenges initial ideas to provide more practical, stylish alternatives. Plus, they maintain fantastic, patient communication throughout the process.

Keep in mind that their signature aesthetic leans heavily toward sleek, ultra-modern architecture, which may clash if you prefer a traditional countryside cottage vibe.

Additionally, their strict weekday hours can make scheduling site visits difficult for those working standard full-time jobs.

Pros

  • Exceptional success rate at securing difficult planning permissions
  • Creatively challenges client ideas for better practical outcomes
  • Accepts projects of all sizes with no minimum budget
  • Praised for highly patient and clear client communication

Cons

  • Bold aesthetic leans heavily toward ultra-modern architecture
  • Restricted weekend availability makes scheduling difficult

We highly recommend Pritpal and his team. We asked them for support even though they do not cover commercial properties and they were happy to support us all the way through, including getting the planning permission passed first time and recommending other professionals along the way as and when we required additional support. Calls and emails were always answered in a timely manner; professional at all times and now our business is thriving!

We wish them well in all they do.

Kind regards

We had a great consultation with Pritpal. He and his team are thorough and very professional. He made himself available at very short notice and gave my husband and I lots of great ideas to consider. We would definitely recommend and use them again in the future.
