1. Dishoom Birmingham

Website: https://www.dishoom.com/birmingham/
Address: One Chamberlain Square
Contact: 0121 809 5986
Hours: Mon–Thurs 8 am–11 pm | Fri 8 am–12 am | Sat 9 am–12 am | Sun 9 am–11 pm
Stepping into Dishoom Birmingham feels like stepping back in time to an old Bombay café. You can pop in for a hearty breakfast or settle down for a big evening feast.
Their all-day Indian comfort food, paired with a lively, heritage-inspired atmosphere, makes Dishoom a standout choice in the city centre.
The House Black Daal is incredibly rich, and one customer we spoke with still raves about the bacon naan roll they had there last month. They said the flavours hit perfectly every time.
They also cater well to different dietary needs, with dedicated vegan and gluten-free menus.
However, the dining room can get very busy and loud because the all-day format is so popular.
Still, their location in Chamberlain Square makes it easy to reach for a social meetup.

Dashoom delivered
Our waiter Kim went above and beyond. His recommendations and knowledge of every item was great. From the amount of food to order, which food items would go great together, to running after us after we paid and had left with a hat we forgot at the table. Best waiter I have had in a while! And the food was delicious too. Dashoom delivered.

Portion were small, but on the same time so generous because of the flavours.

2. The Wilderness

Website: https://www.wearethewilderness.co.uk/
Address: 27 Warstone Lane, Jewellery Quarter
Contact: 0121 233 9425; [email protected]
Hours: Dinner: Wed–Sat 6:00 PM–9:00 PM; Lunch: Sat 12:30 PM–2:00 PM
If you want something bold, The Wilderness serves provocative Michelin-starred tasting menus inside a restored factory. This rock-and-roll fine-dining concept flips the stuffy restaurant vibe with their massive culinary creativity while listening to a loud soundtrack.
Their dishes rotate constantly, but you can expect clever combinations like smoked eel with truffle or scallop paired with raspberry. They also accommodate pescatarian and gluten-free diets if you give them 48 hours’ notice.
For those seeking the best vegetarian restaurants, they do offer alternative plant-based menus upon request.
Keep in mind, the Michelin-star price tag means it won’t suit every budget. They also run on limited service days, opening mostly for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, so spontaneous walk-ins are nearly impossible.

Each course was gorgeous
It was absolutely an amazing experience. Each course was gorgeous. The kitchen’s commitment to technique and sourcing is evident in every bite. Every course arrived looking like a modern masterpiece. The balance of flavours was impeccable. There was a clear narrative to the signature menu, transitioning from bright starters to rich, deeply complex mains.

Sometimes you just need a massive, messy burger, and Fat Hippo delivers exactly that. This independent brand specialises in wildly indulgent, stacked burgers that are perfect for satisfying serious comfort-food cravings.
You can sink your teeth into towering creations packed with melty cheese and crispy bacon. Plus, the kitchen team regularly updates its allergen information, so you can easily check the ingredients before ordering.
For lazy nights in, click-and-collect and delivery options make things even more convenient.
If you’re after international flavours instead, you might want to check out our guide to the top Korean BBQ restaurants in Birmingham.
However, they’re mainly about American-style indulgence, and Muslim diners should also know that the beef isn’t halal. Additionally, the restaurant lacks morning hours.

4. Turtle Bay Birmingham

Website: http://turtlebay.co.uk/restaurants/birmingham
Address: 81–91 John Bright Street
Contact: 0121 643 1303
Hours: Sun–Thu 10:00 AM–10:30 PM; Fri–Sat 10:00 AM–12:00 AM
Turtle Bay brings a vibrant Caribbean-inspired dining experience right next to New Street Station. Their biggest draws are the bottomless brunch and all-day two-for-one cocktails.
One customer we spoke with visited for a friend’s birthday and said the two hours of unlimited cocktails, paired with the spicy Honey Bunny Yardbird, completely made their weekend.
Plus, the laid-back island atmosphere instantly puts you in a party mood. The restaurant charges no room hire fees, either, making them a convenient option for larger community events and parties.
But know that their Caribbean-style menu might not suit guests looking for more familiar dishes. And they don’t open early enough for the morning commuter crowd.

I will definitely be back
As a lone female traveller for work, feeling safe and welcome it’s important. From the minute I walked in Alex was great. Chaniece served me throughout. She attentive but not intrusive. The food was fabulous and the vibe in the restaurant was great. I will definitely be back.

Good night out
Visited turtle bay for dinner and a catch up with friends, it took a while to be acknowledged by the staff, however the security on the door got their attention for us. Atmosphere was lovely and vibrant, and could not fault the food. The salmon was juicy and delicious and the 2 for 1 cocktails were lovely with plenty of choices! Good night out.

5. Grand Central Kitchen

Website: https://grand-central-kitchen.locallya.com/
Address: 7 Stephenson Street
Contact: +44 121 633 3883
Hours: Mon–Sun 6:30 AM–4:00 PM
Grand Central Kitchen is a great casual breakfast spot right opposite New Street Station. Here, they focus on classic English breakfasts and good hot coffee, making them a cosy stop for commuters looking to fuel up before a busy day.
Inside, you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere that suits busy college students and tired tourists. The menu also has plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, so there’s something for different diets.
Plus, accessible seating and free Wi-Fi make it easy to settle in, enjoy your meal, and even send a few emails.
Sadly, the café closes by 4:00 p.m., so dinner isn’t an option. Also, they don’t take reservations, so you’ll need to walk in and hope there’s a table available.

One of the best English breakfasts I had in Birmingham
One of the best English breakfasts I had in Birmingham.
The Full English was excellent: good quality sausages, crispy bacon, perfectly cooked eggs and generous portions at a very fair price. Everything tasted fresh and properly homemade.
What really made the experience even better was the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly, professional and welcoming even during busy hours, which is something you don’t always find in city centre places.

Good service and very filling meal
Lovely all-day breakfast place in central Birmingham at a great value. The English Breakfast which comes with cheese omelette instead of the usual eggs which is a nice twist. Good service and very filling meal.
