Led by the incredibly talented Simeon Thaw, S4 Studio brings something truly artistic to Birmingham’s photography scene. His award-winning work blends edgy visuals with powerful storytelling.

The studio has everything you could want: a huge white infinity wall, professional Bowens lighting, coloured gels, and plenty of props. There’s a lounge, a changing area with vanity mirrors, a kitchen, and a breakout space.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that with so much pro-level gear and artistic add-ons, beginners might feel slightly intimidated. Also, they don’t display full pricing details online, which makes it hard to know what you’re in for unless you reach out directly.

But what really stood out to us was their custom wall art and large-format prints. You don’t just walk away with photos; you get framed artwork that feels like something you’d hang in a gallery.

And if you’re looking for a meaningful gift, their photography vouchers are brilliant for newborn sessions, family shoots, or pet portraits.

Pros

  • Artistic direction by Simeon Thaw
  • Fully equipped studio
  • Comfortable facilities
  • Ideal for both creative projects and portrait sessions

Cons

  • No clear pricing online
  • May overwhelm the beginners unfamiliar with studio setups

High quality and worth the price

“First, Simeon is professional as the photographer because I had perfect experience photo session for personal use; I recommend anyone looking for photo session in the UK, especially in Birmingham. In addition, he deserves the money that I paid him due to strong effort and he gives you creative positions to make the photo more attractive and shining. Please do not worry about the price because the client gets the high quality of the photo which deserves 150 pounds.”

Always professional, adaptable, and able to put everyone at ease

“Over the past two years, Simeon has been an incredible asset to our youth music charity, Orchestras for All. His photography truly captures the essence and emotion of our inclusive events with young musicians, from the energy of our live performances to the quiet, meaningful moments behind the scenes. Not only is Simeon exceptionally talented, but he is also a joy to work with – always professional, adaptable and able to put everyone at ease. His ability to bring out the best in his subjects, whether it’s a lively full orchestra or an individual musician, is unmatched. The quality of Simeon’s work has been consistently stunning, and his photos have played a huge role in showcasing the spirit and mission of Orchestras for All. We couldn’t recommend him highly enough!”

Antonis Mamillos, who runs PHOS Media, brings 25 years of photography experience, and it shows. You can tell this studio was built by someone who understands what creatives need.

The studio has an effortlessly cool industrial vibe that instantly gets you in the zone. We particularly love that the space itself spans 685 square feet and features high ceilings, large windows, and the ideal amount of natural light.

The white infinity cove is a proper standout. It’s ideal for fashion, e-commerce, and even slick music video setups. We appreciate that you also have a separate area for backdrops, a makeup station, and a private changing room.

Also, we commend that their hire includes everything: LED video lights, softboxes, and flash heads, with no hidden fees for gear. It’s where you can just walk in and start creating without worrying about what you’ve forgotten.

Just a heads-up: bookings are handled manually via DM or email, so don’t expect real-time confirmation. That delay might throw things off a bit if you’re working on tight timelines.

Pros

  • Huge studio space layout
  • Packages include an infinity cove and a changing area
  • Run by an experienced fashion photographer

Cons

  • No instant booking system

Great studio with excellent lighting

“A great photography studio in a brilliant location. The studio offered equipment and backdrops there which worked well for us travelling from a different location, meaning we didn’t have to bring much with us. Paul is really friendly and attentive if you need any help with anything in the studio. The natural lighting was incredible and right in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter making it a great shoot location.”

Lots of different lighting

“Me and my family came to the studio for a photo shoot and had a fantastic time. Fun session and we were thrilled with the photos that were captured for us. Lots of different lighting (that my daughter thought were fabulous, she felt like a real model!!) we had a great time and will be using the studio again in the future no doubt, cheers lads”

C.F.C. Studio is located within the Telsen Centre, offering a quiet and versatile space for creative shoots. We loved how each set-up was carefully styled, from clean backdrops to warm lifestyle corners that worked beautifully for portraits.

However, we have noticed that the space isn’t very large, which could be tricky if you’re coming in with a full team, props, or video work. It’s great for intimate sessions, but you might feel cramped if you aim for something more elaborate.

Nonetheless, Chris, the man behind the lens, has a calming presence that makes you feel instantly comfortable. His direction feels natural, and it’s clear why event clients keep coming back for his signature warmth and eye for detail.

His range is genuinely impressive, from weddings and parties to funeral services. He also creates gorgeous keepsakes. We spotted premium prints, wall art, and luxe albums that really elevate our overall experience.

Pros

  • Intimate and styled setups
  • Offers printing, wall art, and luxury albums
  • Great for portraits, events, and family shoots

Cons

  • Limited space may not suit heavily styled productions

Delivers the photos within 24 hours

“Fantastic experience with Chris at C.F.C Studios. I’m not comfortable infront of a camera and Chris instantly made me feel at ease. He’s really personable, flexible and a very gifted photographer. He’s also super efficient as I received the photos within 24 hours!”

Prices are very good compared to other studios

“Thank you Chris – what a great photo shoot. Made it very easy for some of the team who have never done a photo shoot before. With parking made easy on site – we was able to bring our own stuff to use for the shoot as we had various different clothing items we wanted to use. He allowed us to use his music set up to make the mood very relaxing. This is my second time using Chris and will use again and again. Also his prices are very good compared to what some other studios are charging for the same thing without the relaxed atmosphere. Thanks again”

During our visit, we noticed that Venture Studios’ vibe was playful yet professional. We really valued how the team made even the most awkward family members feel at ease.

But the one standout feature about them is their “Pride & Joy” Motor Experience. Yes, it’s more than just a name because you can literally drive your car or bike into the studio for a high-end shoot.

We also loved their pre-shoot consultations, which helped tailor the vibe to our home’s look. Honestly, this one is ideal if you plan to hang that final framed print in your living room.

Our session felt personalised from start to finish, and the photos reflected genuine emotion. Even our dog got their moment because the studio is genuinely pet-friendly, and the staff handled it like pros.

However, it was disappointing that the viewing session felt somewhat salesy, and it was easy to get swept up in adding extras.

Pros

  • Unique motor experience for cars and bikes
  • Pet-friendly with a family-focused approach
  • Offers handcrafted wall art
  • Offers pre-shoot consultations for custom styling

Cons

  • Pushy sales tactics

Wonderful and comfortable experience

“Had a thoroughly wonderful experience with Venture Midlands Studio!  Hannah the photographer was wonderful with Chilli our parrot!  She took some lovely photos of us all and made us all feel very comfortable and relaxed!  Thanks Hannah 😊  The show that was put together was brilliant and captured special moments that we can always smile and look back on!!  Thanks again Hannah 😊  Beth was very helpful and helped us put together a little package that was affordable for us in this moment of time!!   All in all well pleased!!  Thank you Ladies X 😊”

Staff are really friendly and professional

“We were really happy with all the photos. Staff are really friendly and professional. We enjoyed it especially our kids. To be honest, this is a kind of studio where you’d keep on coming back because of how great everything and everyone is. Special thanks to Stephie that brought our best poses out and to Beth for being so helpful and supportive.”

Lux Gallery & Photography Studio doesn’t feel like your typical photo studio; it’s more like walking into a curated boutique that offers photography. It has an understated luxury vibe, featuring velvet chairs, clean white walls, and local artwork throughout.

Their photography services range from family and wedding shoots to professional food and product photography. If needed, the setup can be brought on location.

While it excels in still portrait setups, we find that the space isn’t ideal for larger or dynamic productions, such as video shoots or complex product sets. It’s best suited for those who want refined shots in a quiet, elegant environment.

But we really value pricing. Thankfully, they also offer flexible studio rental from £60 per half-day. It already includes professional lighting and a client seating area.

We also love how the studio is connected to the gallery. Seeing portraits printed and displayed alongside contemporary ceramics and sculpture makes the experience feel genuinely creative.

Additionally, they’re part of the Own Art Scheme, which allows you to buy original art interest-free.

Pros

  • Affordable studio rental
  • Offers a wide range of photography services
  • Connected to an award-winning art gallery
  • Interest-free Own Art Scheme program

Cons

  • Not ideal for complex sets due to space layout

Patient photographer and lovely studio

“As a family of 5, I’ve wanted photos done of all of us for a while now but hadn’t gotten around to sorting it. After a consultation with Owen, i finally got a date in the diary to make it happen. The date arrived finally and my children decided that they didn’t want to have any photos done!!! Owen was amazing though, very patient, his calm nature got the children out of their shell and we soon got some lovely images done. Owen worked around the children and even incorporated a shot with their beloved tablets! This was an ice breaker. Considering 2 of my children have special needs, this was never going to be an easy task but somehow Owen made it easily accomplished. The studio is lovely, comfortable and in a great location in the city so very easy to grab a tasty treat once the shoot is over. Thank you so much, highly recommend this studio.”

Delivers high-quality photos

“Owen is such a delight! He made feel welcome and comfortable, and took some great pictures. He listened to my feedback on the go, we had a lot of fun and gave me some excellent advice of what would work and what wouldn’t. I really valued Owen 1 delivering amazing quality and 2 willing to try different things and experiment. It felt like we co-created something, rather than just been churned out. Would recommend Owen to anyone looking to get any headshots or other photographs taken!”
