The 5 best interior designers in Birmingham for curated spaces

  • Certifications and Accreditations: I sought out interior designers with excellent credentials. Specifically, I wanted to work with those who had connections with the BIID and the CSD.
  • Portfolio of Designs: I picked interior designers who have a great portfolio. A portfolio is the best way I have found to determine if their style was right for me, and those with an expansive one were highly desired.
  • Specialisations and Services: I chose interior designers who have specialisations. Depending on which part of the house I wanted them to work on, I wanted to be sure that they had experience in it beforehand.
  • Timeline of Service: I went for interior designers who provide and follow a clear timeline. While projects like these take time, I didn’t want to wait a full year for just a single room.
  • Clear and Concise Contracts: I considered interior designers who have clear and concise contracts.

Designing a home or office can be tough. We all want that personal flair, but not everyone has an eye for style. Some of us just throw things together and hope for the best.

But what if I tell you there’s an easier way? Yes, that’s where interior designers come in. They take our ideas and turn them into stunning spaces, sparing us the stress of picking colours and furniture.

Having worked with a few myself and knowing friends who’ve done the same, I’ve rounded up the best interior designers in Birmingham who can beautifully transform any space.

How much do interior designers charge in Birmingham?

Interior designers in Birmingham typically charge between £50 and £450 per hour. Aside from these, there are also additional costs like fixed fees for the scope and complexity of the project.

2G Design & Build prioritises the interconnectivity between brand and space when it comes to their work. Of course, they pair those with customer insights that make every design unique.

I was impressed that their works span six different design philosophies, with their main focus being on hospitality & leisure businesses and offices. They can also work on residential projects and provide advice for retail owners.

I went through their entire interior design service experience. It covers a 6-stage build process that starts with consultation and concept work and ends with bringing my design ideas to life.

When it comes to spaces that only need furniture, they have a design and fit-out service for these. Their team seeks out furniture and decor that would go well within the space provided, and I admire their attention to detail on these.

Their track record includes a mix of heritage buildings and artistic spaces, and among those that stood out are Old Black Lion and Tropea II.

However, with their modern approach to interior design, their services come at a higher price compared to others.

Pros

  • Prioritises brand and space
  • Follows 6 different design philosophies
  • Works with a variety of clients
  • Offers a 6-stage build process
  • Wide range of interior design
  • Provides construction services

Cons

  • Expensive service

Not your average building company

“Not your average building company. 2G are the full package: consultation, design, procurement, project management and ultimately, exemplary designers, project managers, craftsmen and builders.

The whole team were extremely knowledgeable, responsive and reassuring pre build. We had a great designer that listened to what we wanted and brought it to life. 2G gave us options and sourced excellent materials and any required external contractors for us to review. The build and project management team were exemplary – and moreover – approachable throughout the preliminary process.

2G then completed the big and complex job in 2 weeks (inclusive of the Queen’s jubilee bank holiday) and yet nothing was too much trouble. They are the opposite of many contractors that make you feel like an inconvenience for wanting things done in a certain way/ timeframe. They have also been very responsive to any minor quibbles post build, and fixed a couple of snags very quickly.

Quality comes at a price. However, for the speed of return, confidence their whole team gave us and of course, the quality of the finished product, means that if you can do it, don’t hesitate. They will ultimately save you time (and therefore money) and provide quality work that won’t need re-doing a few years down the line. Thank you to all of the team.”

The final design was just what we wanted

“We have used 2G for two separate projects. The first was a full renovation of our house with extension. Followed by a “second fit” to a basement conversion that also included design work for bespoke storage solutions. On both occasions we have found them to be professional, open and honest with pricing (which they stuck to!), always punctual, always showed up when they said they would and finished within the timescale range that was set. We have used so many tradespeople over the years and these are always the biggest bug bears but we could not fault 2G on any aspect.

The fact that we returned to them for the second project speaks volumes. The design team were creative, attentive and a pleasure to deal with. The final design was just what we wanted with some flair! Can 100% recommend the team.”

Cream & Black Interior Design works with clients throughout all aspects of property development. Offering their services to commercial and residential spaces, I can’t help but commend their use of modern technologies to achieve their best work.

Their team is well-versed in thirteen different types of interior design, focusing on aspects such as lighting and turnkey interior design to bring life to projects. Additionally, they utilise 3D rendering for all projects.

When dealing with residential projects, the goal is to tell the owners’ story. I was there when they drew the concept designs and provided briefings before the project even started, showcasing their care for the craft.

In projects that are still in the construction phase, the team collaborates closely with contractors to create one-of-a-kind architectural features.

I’d describe the finished product to be sleek and contemporary. The others I’ve seen also utilise dull colours and low-key furniture.

Unfortunately, they don’t have much experience with commercial projects because they mainly specialise in residential ones.

Pros

  • Uses modern technologies
  • Comprehensive design process
  • Collaborates with contractors
  • Offers one-of-a-kind architectural features
  • Mainly offers sleek and contemporary designs

Cons

  • Little experience with commercial projects

The guys were unbelievably professional

“The guys were unbelievably professional. Helping me and my wife understand from the roots design structure and sticking to the brief going above and beyond what we were expecting. Hannah & Laura made our house feel huge on the inside by cleverly using natural light and light/fresh colour combinations.

They were always there to hand if we needed them and they helped turn our house into something more than we could have dreamt of!

Thank you Cream&Black!

The team exhibited utmost professionalism

“Well WOW – what can I say team?!

I am absolutely delighted with my experience as a client of Cream & Black. The team exhibited utmost professionalism and attentiveness throughout the entire process. They carefully listened to my preferences and delivered a design that not only met, but exceeded my expectations, maintaining the sophisticated style synonymous with Cream & Black. Without hesitation, I would engage their services again and am already in the planning stages for my next project with them. I now have my dream lounge! Thank you girls :-)”

Copper and Ash offers a more down-to-earth approach when it comes to their projects. They forgo the popular minimalist approach and incorporate bold colours and decor that truly caught my attention.

They’ve worked with popular brands, such as Disney and Marks & Spencer, and I can’t help but be impressed with their portfolio.

Their clientele is split between three sectors: hospitality, retail, and workplace.

When working in the hospitality sector, they provide their designs to restaurants and hotels. In this, they take note of the rising need to accommodate coworking spaces or additional activities to stand out.

As for the retail sector, they create expansive spaces that are both functional and beautiful. Focused on bringing the brand to the forefront, they also consider the customer’s desire to try out products, which I can attest to.

Finally, for the workplace sector, they create spaces that are perfect for today’s hybrid setups. With open spaces and bright lighting being the main focus of their designs.

But there’s a hiccup: They don’t work with residential spaces.

Pros

  • Down-to-earth approach
  • Incorporates bold colours and decor
  • Worked with large brands
  • Offers services to three different sectors
  • Modernised takes on design

Cons

  • Doesn’t work with the residential sector

They showed great professionalism throughout

“We had a fantastic experience working with Copper and Ash on our new office location in Birmingham. Their project management skills were exceptional, and they showed great professionalism throughout the process. What impressed us the most was their dedication to understanding our brand, not just from an aesthetic standpoint but also in terms of our cultural values. They truly went the extra mile to create a space that reflected our brand identity and created a positive and inspiring work environment.”

Fantastic work on the design of my chocolate shop

“Matthew and Kayleigh have done fantastic work on the design of my chocolate shop. They took great care in discussing the project brief and understood the style I like.

It is a new venture for me, I felt supported with technical aspects of the project. As Kayleigh is local, she gave me some contacts and answered questions as they arose. I have had a great response to the design, which has really made the difference as a new opening.”

Posh Design works on two specific rooms rather than the whole house. They specialise in bespoke kitchens and unique bedrooms that are comfortable and functional. Working with brands such as AEG and Siemens, I’d describe their work to be contemporary.

For the kitchen, they can work with either a sleek and modern aesthetic or one that resembles a more dated aesthetic. As a client, I was personally invited to one of their kitchen showcases, which gave me inspiration for my own project.

When working on bedrooms, they prioritise the needs and uses of their clients within this space. I’m impressed by their customised shelving units and bed frames.

Additionally, they can also mount appliances to the walls and create small office spaces inside these bedrooms. Aside from that, I also visited their manufacturing facility for the custom furniture that they provide, and it’s an expansive space full of creativity.

However, their services are limited to these two rooms only. This means you’ll have to look for other designers for the rest of the house.

Pros

  • Specialises in bedrooms and kitchens
  • Works with popular appliance brands
  • Offers a wide range of aesthetics
  • Creates custom furniture
  • Maximises small spaces

Cons

  • Only works on two specific rooms

It has transformed into something beyond my expectations

“From the very first consultation to the final touches, Rooz has been nothing short of phenomenal. All of his team that worked on my project has been truly outstanding, it has transformed into something beyond my expectations, leaving me absolutely speechless every time I walk in.

What made the experience remarkable wasn’t just the high quality craftsmanship, but Rooz himself. He was there at every step, consulting me, ensuring I was happy with the progress, and never hesitating to adjust things to my liking. No question was too small, no concern too big, he was always available, at any time of day, with patience and genuine care. His team mirrored his excellence: friendly, professional, and warm.

What touched me most was how he made us feel. It was never just a “job” for him. Rooz made us feel like family, not just clients. His customer service was flawless, and his dedication unmatched. My kitchen isn’t just a space now; it’s a statement, a reflection of his passion and perfection. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.”

Our new kitchen looks beautiful

“Great experience with Rooz and the team at Posh Design. Our new kitchen looks beautiful, with a high-quality finish. From start to finish they gave the impression they cared about the job (in stark contrast to some of the larger companies we also contacted), and worked with us to design it exactly how we wanted it, without any hard sell. They have excellent customer service, with quick responses to any queries, and dealt professionally with the whole process. Thanks guys!”

When it comes to a classic aesthetic, I’d suggest going with Belwell Interiors. Having been in the business since 1976, they’ve found that full room overhauls lose the essence of what made houses feel lived in.

I enjoy that instead of focusing on specific rooms, they go for a bits-and-pieces approach. Designing rooms through different aspects, like wallpaper and carpets, that can be implemented in any room of the house.

Their design philosophy addresses everything from lighting to flooring, enabling me to modify small aspects of each room while respecting the original furnishings.

Aside from that, they also offer reupholstery, which revives your old furniture. If that isn’t your style, they can also supply you with specially crafted bespoke furniture that caters to each client’s designs.

Additional available furnishings include mirrors and cushions. These have aesthetics ranging from modern to antique, and my favourite being velvet cushions.

Due to this type of design philosophy, their services are far cheaper than others. However, don’t expect to receive an extensive makeover to your house compared to other services.

Pros

  • Over 49 years of experience
  • Offers a bits-and-pieces design approach
  • Integrates already existing furnishings
  • Offers reupholstery services
  • Creates bespoke furniture
  • Cheaper compared to others

Cons

  • Doesn’t provide an extensive overhaul

The turnaround time was exceptionally quick

“Kim and colleagues provided an excellent service. Initially I was keen on swags and tails for a bedroom, but Kim suggested a Roman blind during a measurement appointment due to space around the window. We matched fabric colours, with a pelmet and dress curtains, also. The turn around time was exceptionally quick, and the fitter was proficient. Very, very pleased with the finished appearance. Will definitely be using again and highly recommend.”

– Carolyn Ling, Google Review

High standard with great attention to detail

“I had some cushions made using my mother’s material in her memory.

Kim and her team were very helpful and professional in their approach to the project offering ideas, solutions and guidance for the best results. I was not disappointed with the result. The cushions were made to a high standard with great attention to detail.

I would definitely recommend Kim and her team.”
