Dining at The Wilderness feels like stepping into a moody art installation—dark walls, rock music, and food that is theatre. Their menus are known for pushing creative boundaries, such as wagyu tartare with wasabi snow or desserts that resemble alien planets.

Their upstairs studio offers a private dining experience for 10–16 guests, and you can even request music curation and projection visuals to match your event.

They take a multi-sensory approach with tasting menus starting at around £115 per person. It’s not cheap, but you’re not just paying for food; you’re paying for storytelling.

  • Thursday to Saturday: 12 PM – 2 PM and 6:30 PM – 9 PM

Pricing: £££

Upstairs by Tom Shepherd is a Michelin-starred escape above a jewellery shop in the middle of Lichfield. Okay, it’s technically outside Birmingham, but worth the 35-minute trip.

Their private dining room, “The Residency,” has floor-to-ceiling windows with sunset views of Lichfield Cathedral. It’s modern and minimal and just feels calming.

The menu focuses on British seasonal ingredients with a playful Asian twist, such as scallops served with dashi broth or chocolate paired with miso caramel. They also offer curated tea pairings.

Just a heads-up: menus start at £120 per guest (right, it screams luxury).

3. Opheem

Location: 65 Summer Row, B3 1JJ

Hours:

  • Wednesday and Thursday: 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 12 PM – 1 PM and 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Pricing: £££

We came to Opheem for the Michelin star, but what floored us was how it reconstructed Indian cuisine from scratch. Instead of familiar curries, you’ll find dishes based on centuries-old Indian royal court recipes, modernised with British flair.

They offer a glass-walled private mezzanine space that overlooks the kitchen and dining floor. But what makes them stand out is the cultural backstory of each course.

What’s different here is that they actively avoid repetition across courses, even in spices and textures, so every bite feels new.

We also appreciated their flexibility. Our pescatarian friend had a full alternative menu without compromising on flavour. Plus, the drinks list is heavy on small-batch spirits and creative gin infusions.

4. Chapter Edgbaston

Hours:

  • Tuesday to Friday: 11:30 AM – 11 PM
  • Saturday: 9 AM – 11 PM
  • Sunday: 9 AM – 5 PM

Pricing: ££

The Chapter Edgbaston is a gorgeous Georgian villa turned culinary sanctuary. As soon as you walk in, you’ll immediately notice how serene the space feels, far from the city buzz.

They offer a private first-floor room for up to 18 guests, with a balcony overlooking the leafy Edgbaston area. The food here leans heavily on British provenance, but it’s the attention to technique that truly stands out.

Their three-course private menus start at £65 per person and increase depending on your chosen dishes and extras, such as wine pairings or cheeseboards.

And oh, we love their in-house bread—warm, crusty, and served with smoked cultured butter.

5. Fumo by San Carlo

Location: 1 Waterloo St, B2 5PG

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 12 PM- 11 PM

Pricing: £££

Fumo surprised us in the best way possible. It’s stylish, buzzy, and tucked away near Colmore Row, offering a modern take on classic Italian dishes.

Private groups have a semi-exclusive lounge with luxe gold accents, accommodating up to 30 people without losing the intimate feel. They serve small plates meant for sharing, and trust us, the truffle arancini disappears fast.

Unlike other fine-dining spots, there’s no set menu required for groups, just pre-select your favourites and enjoy à la carte.

The minimum spend starts around £500 on weekends, and they often waive hire fees on weekdays. It’s great for an upscale yet relaxed celebration with friends or colleagues.

6. Isaacs

Located inside the restored Grand Hotel, Isaacs is a moody, Art Deco-inspired space serving elevated New York-style brasserie food.

Their private dining room, “The 1879 Room,” holds up to 16 guests and features original Victorian windows and plush velvet chairs. It’s quietly glamorous.

You can also choose from set group menus starting at £65 per person, or opt for a bespoke option if you feel like splurging.

And for dessert, their cheesecake might be the best in Birmingham. Bonus: you’re steps away from the city’s best bars when you finish dinner.

7. Orelle

If you want skyline views with your celebration, Orelle is unmatched. This modern French restaurant sits on the 18th floor of Birmingham’s tallest office tower and feels like a reward.

Their private room seats 12 and has floor-to-ceiling glass walls with panoramic views over the city. Menus average £95 per guest, featuring French staples like duck à l’orange and lemon sole meunière.

Honestly, this spot is ideal for proposals, anniversaries, or that “big promotion” dinner.

8. Harborne Kitchen

  • Wednesday and Thursday: 6 PM – 10:45 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 12 PM- 4 PM and 6 PM – 10:45 PM

Pricing: £££

Harborne Kitchen surprised us with their open-plan kitchen that makes the cooking part of the show. You’re literally a few feet away from the chefs as they prep.

They’ve got a chic private dining room for 10, complete with textured walls, mood lighting, and a window into the kitchen pass. Tasting menus start at £90 and often include playful dishes, such as “chicken dinner” consommé or smoked eel tarts.

The wine pairings here genuinely impressed us. They offer pours like a Spanish Monastrell by the glass for just £8 and curated flights from around £35.

9. Bacchus Bar

  • Friday: 11 AM – 12 AM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 1 AM
  • Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM

Pricing: ££

This underground bar might be one of Birmingham’s quirkiest hidden spots. It’s situated in a medieval-style cellar beneath the Burlington Hotel, featuring Gothic arches, old-world murals, and a fireplace.

It has multiple themed booths and a bookable vault-style room for private dining (up to 18 people). The food is hearty British pub fare: roasts, pies, and the occasional curry, with mains averaging £15.

What’s unique is the atmosphere. It feels like dining in a castle banquet hall without the price tag. We found it especially charming during colder months when candles and stone walls really set the tone.

10. The High Field

  • Thursday and Friday: 7:30 AM – 11 PM
  • Saturday: 8 AM – 11 PM
  • Sunday: 8 AM – 9 PM

Pricing: ££

This is the place we go when we want something posh-ish but not too fussy. It’s a gastropub with serious design creds like brass details, velvet booths, and art that doesn’t scream ‘chain.’

Their Garden Room can accommodate up to 30 guests and opens onto a private patio, perfect for daytime events or the warmer months. Their private menus are British-modern: pork belly with cider jus, beetroot gnocchi, and sticky toffee to finish.

Their drinks list leans into local spirits and easygoing cocktails, and prices start at £45 per guest.

It’s dog-friendly too, so yes—our friend brought her dachshund to brunch.
